Published on November 14, 2016 by Staff Writer

No matter how many hours of studying you need to do during the week, there is always time for movie or two during your free time. When you are having an off week and are in need of a pick-me-up, nothing can lift your spirits quite like an inspirational film. Most current blockbusters are full of drama and action, and hits that are focused on characters overcoming impossible odds are few and far between. However, there are many great films from years past that are waiting to be downloaded to inspire you and reignite your belief that you can truly accomplish anything you set out to achieve.

This film from the 1980s tells the story of a high school boy named Daniel who is suffering daily at the hands of a large group of bullies. Angry and ready to fight back, an old karate master takes Daniel under his wing and teaches him many lessons about himself and shows him that there is more to fighting back than physical violence. Daniel overcomes many obstacles on his journey to stand up for himself.

A group of young friends are being forced to move out of their neighborhood by a local land developer. Faced with the reality that they are being split up forever, after finding what looks like a treasure map in the attic of one of their homes, they ban together to go seek for hidden treasure associated with a local legend about a pirate named One-Eyed Willy. Their adventures take an unexpected turn when they have a run-in with a local crime family and are forced to go on the run. From deadly booby traps to romance, this movie has it all, showing what friends can do when they believe in their ability to change the future.

When world renowned boxer Apollo Creed visits the city of Philadelphia, local promoters decide to offer small-time fighters a chance of a lifetime. One unknown fighter will be given a chance to fight Creed, a one-time opportunity to become the most famous fighter in the world. Rocky Balboa plans to become that fighter. His belief in himself and his exploration of the limits of human mental and physical ability are inspiring and have made this movie a timeless treasure.

This movie tells the story of professional football player Michael Oher’s rise from homeless high school dropout to his current successful career as an NFL athlete. From his struggles in school to his struggles balancing his old life with the new opportunities available to him once he is taken under the wing of his high school football coach, this film is inspiring for everyone who has struggled and come out on top.

When wealthy West Coast college sorority president Elle Woods is dumped by her East Coast, Harvard Law-bound boyfriend, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She doesn’t let anything stop her from getting to Harvard and doesn’t let negative experiences run her off when she arrives. The theme of this film is to never give up on your dreams but to realize that you may change while you travel to reach them.
