Vet Tech student Gera Taylor Displays the Goods

The Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA) is an outstanding organization and all the Vet Tech students at Broadview University, Orem Campus, are strongly encouraged to join. Students can join for $25.00 a year, however, if the campus has an organized SCNAVTA chapter, all the students can join for free. To have a campus chapter requires $200 annually for 51-200 students.

In order to have a SCNAVTA chapter on campus where all the student could participate, the Vet Tech students organized a bake sale to raise the money for the $200 fee. Success!!! With the funds raised, as well as a donation of $10 per students, everyone can be members.

“Leadership is vitally important for any profession,” says the SCNAVTA website. “[S]tudents [will be able] to experience the responsibilities that go along with being a member of a profession . . . These responsibilities include planning activities that promote veterinary technology, giving back to the community through volunteer efforts . . .”  SCNAVTA objectives include: promoting professional and educational opportunities for vet techs and promoting ethical and humane care for all living creatures.

2014 Dog (and Goat) Wash

Some of the activities that campus vet tech students have been involved in are the Annual Dog Wash and All Things Animal Fair, raising money to purchase animal CPR equipment for the Provo Utah fire department, and fundraiser for the South Utah Valley Animal Shelter. They also participate annually in the Strut Your Mutt fundraiser.

Cindy Day, who spear-headed the bake sale said, “It was fun. We had a lot of support from the students and staff. We are so excited to have our own chapter. It is going to be so great!”

Congratulations to our outstanding vet tech students.
