Yaquelin Juarez: Admissions Representative Extraordinaire

Published on May 6, 2014 by Bob Trewartha

When a new student comes to Broadview University for the first time, they meet with an admissions representative. This starts their quest to find a career they can be passionate about and enroll into Broadview with the hopes to make that dream come true. Yaquelin Juarez, admissions guru and all around student supporter is one of the great examples of someone who cares! I had the chance to ask her a couple questions to better get to know her.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I have been an admissions representative at Broadview University for a little over a year now. Before arriving at Broadview, I went to the University of Utah where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication. I was originally hired as an admissions rep at BEAU in Salt Lake City but had the opportunity to move to Broadview University at the West Jordan campus.

Why is it important to get to know your admission representatives?

We are here to help you! That is our job. From the time you walk through that door to the moment where you graduate, I will be there to guide you and help you make decisions that are best for you. I take this part of my job very seriously because potential students are making huge decisions in their lives when they choose to get a higher education. The more we know about you and the more you know about me allows for the best decision making. Even after you begin school, we are there to help, so it truly is in the best interest of the student get to know us.

What are some of the common mistakes students make when it comes to applying for school?

One of the biggest mistakes that students make when it comes to applying for school is not having a clear understanding of what they want to do or achieve if they start school. Students are most likely to succeed if they are passionate about what they are learning and doing in school. This allows the student to set goals that ultimately lead to their success in school and afterwards when they enter their profession.

What advice do you have for students as they prepare to choose a school?

The best advice I can give is to be informed. Do your research about each school and make an informed decision that will benefit you in the end. This is your life and it’s worth it to take the time and attend a school that fits your lifestyle and goals.

Why choose Broadview?

Broadview is an awesome school. Students should choose Broadview because it gives you the opportunity to learn how to actually do your chosen profession even before you have a job after graduation. This is a very rare thing in higher education. During my time at the University of Utah, I often wished there were more opportunities to obtain actual experience in the job I wanted after I graduated. Broadview provides unparalleled opportunities to get real world experience not only outside of school but in its curriculum as well.

What do you like to do when you are not working at Broadview?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to go on unexpected journeys and find new things to do. I would really like to go skydiving one day.

Any final words of wisdom?

If you are someone who is thinking about getting a higher education, I would do it. There are so many opportunities that arise from having a degree but more importantly, the connections you make while getting your degree will be invaluable for the rest of your life.
