Student spotlight: Veterinary Technology Student Mayra Nieves

Published on September 23, 2014 by Bob Trewartha

Broadview University-West Jordan is lucky to have so many great students. One of them is Mayra Nieves, student in the veterinary technology program. Her charm, kindness and enthusiasm is contagious and we know she will become an incredible veterinary technician. I was able to catch up with her during her busy schedule and talk to her about her experiences at Broadview and in life. Recently, Mayra won a place on the Utah dance team and hopes to pursue acting and dancing.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I am the kind of person who can be a social butterfly or shy as a turtle. I enjoy being with my friends and acting crazy and having fun and sometimes, I am also the loud and annoying one in the group. Considering that I am this person, the one job that I would be perfect at would definitely be filming a movie. Yes, my program is veterinary technology, but the perfect career in my mind is filming a movie.

What advice do you have for new students?

Gosh there are so many! Two things I always think to myself and always tell students to do is to socialize!  So many students focus so much at school that exhaustion and stress hits them, and that is not good for a person’s health. The more of a social life you can get, the less stressed you are. I would suggest joining clubs to be a part of something. This can help a student to get to know the ins and outs of the school as well as add to that job resume. But don’t over socialize either or trouble can take over.

Regardless what Mayra does in the end, she will be successful and Broadview University will always be proud to call her our student.
