The Secret Weapon on Your Side

(MERIDIAN) Picture this: it is Sunday morning. You have just searched through every job board you can think of when all of a sudden, there it is—a job you really, really want. In a hurried frenzy, you start cranking out a cover letter. All done, you’re about to hit send when suddenly it hits you. Wait a minute—you’re a student at Broadview University. That means you don’t have to do this alone. You have a secret weapon on your side and it is called Career Services.
Students who attend Broadview University-Boise have a unique advantage when it comes to getting a job. Along with helping to guide you in the right direction, the Career Services department can help with resume and cover letter development, individual employment counseling, job leads, and interview techniques—making you look like a star on paper and in person.
“From the day a student begins their program, our focus is on their career plan,” Lisa Peterson, Broadview University’s career services director, said. “Instructors build career development into every class, and a strong emphasis to obtain employment in the field while they attend school is stressed in both the classroom and in the Career Services department.”
Peterson is the type of person who runs Career Services like a well-oiled machine. She always has resume paper on hand, a necktie hanging on the back of her door, and shoe polish in her desk. She roams the campus with a megaphone continually reminding students to “Come see me!” In fact, every student who steps foot into the school knows who Lisa is. And when she is not meeting with students, Peterson is out in the community meeting with employers.
“One of my many jobs is to connect employers to our students,” Peterson said. “So far, our success rate is excellent. The majority of the students who have come to me for employment help have succeeded in landing a job. Even better is that many of these students are working in their field of study.”
Not only is the Career Services department available to current students without cost, graduates are guaranteed employment assistance for life. You can find more information about Career Services on the brand new website called CareerConnect.
