How Will You Celebrate National Library Week?

The Broadview University-Layton campus library is proudly joining with libraries across the nation to celebrate National Library Week, April 14-20. Today’s modern libraries are more than simply dusty shelves with books. Libraries are lively places of learning with access to the most up-to-date, vital information to help students succeed in the classroom and in life.

National Library WeekAt Broadview University, students are provided with library resources that extend far beyond the shelves. Students have access to thousands of print books and magazines, over 50,000 journals, more than 60 databases with millions of full-text articles from scholarly journals, popular magazines and trade journals. Students also have unlimited free access to color printing and photocopying.

The Broadview-Layton campus library not only helps students with their school work, but also serves as a central hub of the campus. Students can come to study, put their feet up, relax with a good book, or just socialize with their classmates.

Student Roslyn Ook said that her favorite parts of the library are that it’s always quiet, she has access to computers and printers, and the librarian offers resources.

Vet tech student Crystal Thomas says she enjoys “the selection of reference books on veterinary medicine and the fact that I can print!”

To celebrate National Library Week, the library will be creating a bulletin board for students to share their Must Read Books with a new theme each day. Each Must Read entry will be put into a daily drawing for prizes. Instructors will also be creating bookmarks with their Top 10 Booklists for students to peruse.

On Thursday, April 18, from 12:30-5:00 p.m., the library will be hosting an open house to get to know the library and new campus librarian, Paul Daybell. Activities will include Library Pub Trivia (with prizes!), food and fun!
