Jump Start High School Students to College

Syracuse High School held their first ever College Fair for Junior’s on April 11th, 2013. Over seven hundred students participated in this event.  This event was planned to get Junior’s to start thinking about their future earlier.  Procrastination is the order of the day for most kids, and sometimes that can have a negative impact on their education.   Whether it is missing scholarship opportunities or missing application deadlines, the wait to decide what they want to do after high school can have repercussions that are felt long after that high school graduation cap is thrown in the air. High School Representative Shae Erhart, Program Chair of Paralegal Studies Jessica Nelson, and Program Chair of Medical Programs Terra Vangerven represented Broadview University at this event, providing useful information about the benefits of a college education and what Broadview University can offer.

Broadview University, college fairThroughout the college fair, students were required to complete an assignment that required them to ask questions about tuition, scholarships and other important topics. The majority of the students that visited the Broadview University table were genuinely interested in the programs that we offered and sought additional information. These high school students asked thought provoking questions about our programs and were starting to understand that these important decisions were right around the corner.  Students were excited that we provide a small, hands-on learning environment and that we were located nearby.  Every student that stopped by the Broadview University table was informed about the scholarship workshops that we offer.  Many were interested to find out that they can take up to four free classes at our campus during their senior year to get a jump start on their education.

At the end of the day, the Junior Jump Start Day was a success.  We met a lot of great kids, and hopefully got them excited about college!
