Info Hub of the Campus: New Librarian Celebrates In Style
Published on May 6, 2013 by arothstein
The Broadview University campus in Layton just finished celebrating National Library Week with an entire week of library activities. The week culminated in a library open house for a chance to become better acquainted with our new campus librarian, Paul Daybell.Pay Daybell is the new campus librarian at Broadview University-Layton
Paul joined the Broadview University family at the end of March and has happily dived right into the daily hubbub of the library. Previously he was employed as a catalog assistant at Utah State University, where he worked for two years while he finished his Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. It has been a new challenge moving from a position where his main daily interactions were with books to being the center of the Broadview University-Layton campus library universe.
This is Paul’s first professional library gig and it has been exciting being able to learn all the new aspects that make the library run. However, his favorite part of the job is being able to interact with and help the students as they strive to reach their own educational goals.
Throughout National Library Week, students were invited to post their favorite book titles for a chance to win some nice Broadview swag. Members of the Broadview staff and faculty also created bookmarks with their own Top Ten Must Reads list so students could get a better idea of what makes their professors tick.
Paralegal Program Chair Jessica Nelson spoke lovingly of Neal Gabler’s “Walt Disney: The Triumph of American Imagination,” while Cassie Olsen, Director of Career Services, had a list full of motivating self-help books. Both the staff and students were excited to have these new lists of titles to explore.
During the open house students were able to drop by the library for hot pizza and some grilling get-to-know-you conversation with the new librarian. This was a great opportunity for students to become familiar with their new go-to source for information on campus.
If you haven’t had the chance to stop by the library to say hello, please drop in. You are always welcome.
