This is How It’s Done: Broadview & RiverWoods Create Positive Results

A strong business partnership is like having a best friend in the job world. This type of relationship can last for several years and be just as valuable to a workplace as active stakeholders and talented employees. Broadview University-Orem is lucky enough to have such a partnership with RiverWoods Pet Hospital.
As Broadview’s top externship site for students earning a vet tech degree, RiverWoods Pet Hospital helps teach classes, offers charitable donations to fundraisers, and makes their resources available to the school whenever the need arises. Vet tech graduates are welcomed with open arms, and many graduates choose to work there after a great externship experience. Kimberly Clark, Lindsey Norton and Gina Reeder are among our vet tech graduates who decided to make their externship a daily occupation.
Current students Sydney Howlett and James Reid are also working at the hospital, and will potentially be two more students to take on full-time positions once they graduate.
Owner and founder of the hospital, Dr. Yoeny Calas-Dobson, has been a practicing veterinarian for more than 20 years and is also a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) member with Broadview University. She teaches courses such as Lab Animals, Exotics and Pocket Pets, where she shares her passion and expertise with students looking to follow in her footsteps.
This lasting partnership between Broadview and RiverWoods is due in part to the longstanding relationship that Heather Riggs (Broadview-Orem’s vet tech program chair) has had with the staff at RiverWoods, having worked there for more than 13 years herself. She appreciates the hospital’s focus on employing certified vet techs as opposed to people with no education or experience working with animals.
“Community partners who value educated technicians are priceless,” Heather says. “They help graduating vet techs get the recognition they deserve.”
A mutually beneficial partnership, both Broadview and RiverWoods have supported each other through the good times and the bad. Here’s to many more years to come!
