BOO! Students Enjoy Soup and Spooks at Orem Campus

It’s that time of year again when the leaves change and the chilly weather makes us reach for our favorite coat stashed at the back of the closet. Fall has officially arrived when we notice “pumpkin” versions of everything sprouting up all around us, from hand soaps to lattes to Pop-Tarts. It’s in the spirit of kicking off the holiday season that Broadview University-Orem hosted their annual Halloween party.
This event has become a campus tradition. Students and staff members bring their family and friends to go trick-or-treating in the cubicles (aptly called “cube-or-treating”), enjoy a hot bowl of soup, and walk down the red carpet to show off their Halloween costumes for prizes.
The campus hallways are barely recognizable with all the skulls, cobwebs and smoke machines that transform the office environment into a spook alley, thanks to the decorating talents of Broadview-Orem’s veterinary technology program chapter of SCNAVTA.
As always, the highlight of the evening was the costume contest. “It was fun to see my fellow classmates go from being dressed in scrubs to becoming any number of creatures and critters,” said Amanda Black, vet tech student. “Watching the costume parade down the red carpet was my favorite part.”
The competition was fierce this year as hopefuls lined up for their turn to strut down the red carpet and compete for iTunes gift cards. The judging panel—consisting of Ryan Farley, campus director; Rachel Chapman, director of admissions; and Dave Powell, dean of education—admitted that it was difficult to choose just three winners because there were so many creative costumes.
When the votes were tallied, the winners were:
Best Costume: Jocelyn and Vivian Whittle as Rapunzel and Pascal from the movie Tangled
Cutest Costume: Kelly and Cadry Christensen as “Cow Couple”
Scariest Costume: Tanner Clark as “Gross Zombie”
Honorable Mention: Brent Clark as “Maude”
Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who attended and made our Halloween party spooktacular!
