Nacho Libro – Broadview Style

Last month, nachos and libros (books) could be found at the Broadview University-Boise Campus.

The nachos were part of the third annual FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Week event. During the week, students could drop in and visit Cynthianna Hamrick, financial aid manager, at their convenience and receive assistance in filling out the FAFSA if they needed it.

The nachos, both meat and vegetarian, were available to students who came in to complete the FAFSA and to those who had already done it.

“Nachos are yummy and easy to make,” said Cynthianna. “The returning students look forward to having nachos, and the new students are excited to see it happening on campus.”

Ashley Halverson, a veterinary technology student, agreed. “The nachos were very good and a nice touch. Cynthianna was very helpful in filling out my FAFSA form.”

Fellow classmate Kristine Earls added, “They were delicious. It’s nice to go in for ten minutes, talk to Cynthianna, and get food out of it.”

The books, for preschool through fifth grade readers, were part of a book drive for Peregrine Elementary.

“We held the book drive as part our National Library Week celebration,” explained Carrie Tannehill, campus librarian. “It also was a way to thank the fourth graders at Peregrine that lent their projects to be displayed for Idaho Day.”

In the end, students, faculty, and staff from Broadview University-Boise contributed 547 fiction and non-fiction and new and gently used books to the drive.

Teresa Miller, Peregrine Elementary Librarian, was pleased with the result. “I am overwhelmed – truly! I couldn’t have even imagined such a great variety of reading levels, classics, and new ones!”

She also expressed her gratitude. “My kiddos are going to be so happy! And, that makes me happy so thank you from the bottom of my heart and from all the lucky students who will benefit from this generous, oh so generous, donation.”
