How Many Librarians Does It Take to Run a Library?

One book, two book, three book, four…how many librarians does it take to run a library? The library offers books, computers, printers, and a warm body to help you in your research and homework. At Broadview University-Layton, we understand the importance of keeping the library open while students are on campus. In order to address this need, student librarians have been hired. Yes, a fellow student is working in the library. In fact two of them have been hired—Mark Joesten and Sean Mendoza. You may recognize Sean Mendoza as a student ambassador, but who is Mark?
Mark Joesten just graduated with his associate degree in information technology and has come back to school for a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Mark stated that he returned to school to better himself by broadening his knowledge base. In response to deciding to go back to school, Mark stated, “My experience has been a good one. I was a bit nervous at first, but after talking with the faculty, my fears went away and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.”
He has received support from friends, family, faculty and students who have helped him through this educational journey.
When he isn’t studying Mark enjoys being outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with the two best Japanese Akitas in the world. Just like most of you, he has dreams and goals for the future, including doing internet security work or computer forensics. That explains the two very different degrees he has pursued.
Although Mark states there is a lot to learn in the library, he really enjoys interacting with the faculty and other students. Next time you are in the library, say hi to Mark Joesten and Sean Mendoza. They look forward to working with you!
