Feelings of excitement, accomplishment and success could be seen and felt from every Broadview University–West Jordan graduate as they entered the Utah Cultural Celebration Center on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012. Wearing caps and gowns, students walked in to take their seats along with their loyal supporters–their family and friends.
Mark Staats, Broadview-West Jordan’s campus director, opened the ceremony by giving a warm welcome to the graduates and guests. The audience was treated to special guest speakers, including motivational speaker and coach, John Boyd, and Tamara Roberts, a medical assisting graduate.
Tamara talked about the hardships and trials that she experienced along the way–trials that would make just about anyone doubt themselves and even quit school. But with perseverance and support from her family and program chair, Brooke Pearson, Tamara achieved success. “I continued on with school, I was loving it, I loved being a student, and I loved learning,” said Tamara.
Tamara and her fellow medical assistant graduates participated in the Medical Assisting Oath, conducted by program chair Brooke Pearson.
“I am so proud of my graduates and the obstacles they have overcome to get to this point. My hope for them is that they will always remember and retain, not just the skills they have learned, but the self-confidence they have gained and the new people they have become. They now have the ability to conquer whatever life throws at them, so I hope they go out there and kill it!” said Pearson.
One by one, the graduates in Veterinary Technology, Medical Assisting, Paralegal, Nursing, Business Administration, Accounting, Massage Therapy, and Criminal Justice programs headed to the front to receive their Diplomas, Associate degrees, and Bachelor’s degrees in their respective fields.
Shortly after, a moment was set aside for the graduates to face their loved ones in attendance, and publicly show their appreciation for the support given to them throughout recent years, leading up to graduation.
Upon conclusion of the ceremony, the new Broadview University–West Jordan graduates had some time to enjoy some refreshments, as well as mingle with fellow students, family, faculty, and staff.
“Our recent graduates have completed an incredible academic journey and achieved one of the most distinguishing educational accomplishments a student can achieve whereas they can now be called graduates,” said Mark Staats, campus director. “I would cast a new challenge to these marvelous individuals in the years to come by tasking them to actively utilizing the education they have completed and make a difference with direct practical and/or real world application of what they have achieved”.
Congratulations, graduates, on achieving your educational goals! And may the near future bring you much success and opportunity.
