Vet Tech Students Volunteer at Strut Your Mutt

Recently, Salt Lake City hosted its 18th annual Strut Your Mutt fundraising event. The event is hosted by Best Friends Animal Society. They give people a chance to raise money for animal welfare and then have the main event. People walk their dogs and enjoy a fun run as well. Angie Keeley, the president of Broadview University-West Jordan’s SCNAVTA (Student Chapter of National Veterinary Technicians in America) program, described it as “a fun event with a park full of dogs, dog lovers and just about everything to do with dogs!”
Several people who attend Broadview University-West Jordan chose to participate in this year’s fundraiser. Broadview University’s vet tech team program raised $250 for the group’s charity and walked their dogs in the event. According to Camille Hendricks, a full-time vet tech instructor and SCNAVTA advisor, these students “strutted their mutts around Liberty Park and enjoyed every minute of the interaction with other participants.”
The college and its veterinary technology program also set up a booth, and the SCNAVTA officers and other students manned it. The vet tech program offered things that students could buy to raise more money for Best Friends. Angie described it as “paw print kits and homemade dog treats that Amberlee Christensen and I made, along with pet first aid kits that Camille Hendricks put together.” There was plenty of interest in these treats, and Camille confirmed that “there wasn’t a dull moment at the booth!”
People could spin a prize wheel to get a chance to win Broadview University “swag” and animal gift baskets as well.
Along the way, Angie says, “We also fielded questions from pet owners about dental care and general pet health and even talked with a few people interested in the vet tech program.”
Our students get a great opportunity to be able to show people the best way to care for their pets. If you think you’re interested in the vet tech program, contact Broadview University.
